From Ordinary Mums…to Podcast & Fringe Performers

Over a year ago, we were a bunch of mum-friends having chats over coffee in Stockbridge…. now we’re about to have our debut Fringe Show at Just the Tonic Nucleus, Atomic Stage: a 300 seater theatre. It’s been a wild ride, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Whoever said midlife was boring was wrong… who wants to be boring at 40ish (I’ll be calling myself that well into my 50s)?

I wrote a Stand-up Comedy script for the first time with the guidance of the incredible Viv Gee… and practiced the script and my stand-up set at two comedy sets in Edinburgh (THANK YOU Economy Class Comedy & Open Comedy). I’ve loved meeting loads more new, incredible people, and challenging myself in this completely new way. Let’s be honest ladies: nothing is harder then childbirth… what’s standing up in front of a crowd telling jokes about motherhood after that?

Jokes aside, I really wanted to share this part of the journey… it’s not every day that us Mums get to do something completely different. Many of us mums & older ladies feel like we disappear, lose ourselves, and that our needs and thoughts get ignored as we get older. Many of us give up a lot of ourselves for our kids, families, and communities…and of course that’s not all bad! … but it is something that can be hard when we feel like people take us for granted or discount our needs. But with age often comes authenticity… and the superpower of generally not giving a shite about what other people think. If we’re lucky, we are surrounded by a community that supports us - and friends that cheer us on.

So cheers to the Mums who step out of the shadows and challenge ourselves!

I’m going to wrap up with a plug for our Fringe Show…. coming to you August 29th & 30th at 2pm at Just the Tonic Nucleus, Atomic Stage. We aren’t famous, so filling the theatre seats is definitely a challenge. Come on out and support us ordinary Mums… it’s going to be great chat, a lot of authenticity, and a lot of laughs!
